Re-Creation of Phnom Penh Restaurant | Vancouver, BC
Phnom Penh Beef Luc Lac Recipe
Rice
Long Grain Rice is recommended for this dish. Itās a must-have pairing.
Beef
I used a New York Striploin cut in this recipe, but I would highly recommend a Tenderloin cut for a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
TRADITION
This dish is a re-creation of Phnom Penh Restaurant in Vancouver, BC. They use beef slices, not the traditional way of making Beef Luc Lac [Look-Luck] or Bò Lúc Lắc (Vietnamese Shaking Beef) as cubes. Traditionally, Beef Luc Lac is cut into cubes to represent dice being vigorously shaken and stirred in a pan to achieve an even and thorough sear. Truthfully, I prefer the beef slices over cubes. I ended up using Olive Oil as well, since I made Garlic Thyme Infused Olive Oil in a previous recipe, for more depth of flavor. I would suggest using Neutral Oil to keep it more traditional.
