What is Hot Honey Ranch

Hot honey ranch is a creamy ranch with a kick. The chili, sesame and garlic are sizzled in hot oil first, then whisked into Greek yogurt with honey and fresh dill.

It started as the dip for my Calamari, and now it goes on wings, fries, pizza and everything else.

Ranch was invented in the 1950s at a dude ranch in California, and it is still the most popular dressing in America. This version adds honey and a quick homemade chili oil for a sweet, savoury heat that goes with almost anything fried.

Use it as a dip for wings, calamari or fries, drizzle it over a rice bowl, or thin it with a little milk and toss it through a salad.

Key Technique: Sizzled Chili Oil

Pouring 120°C/250°F oil over the chili flakes, sesame and garlic toasts them without burning. Let it cool fully before adding the yogurt so the ranch doesn't split.

FAQs

How long does it keep?

Up to 5 days in a sealed container in the fridge. Whisk again before serving.

Can I use mayonnaise?

Yes. Greek yogurt, sour cream or mayonnaise all work, or mix them.

What can I use it on?

Wings, calamari, fries, fried chicken, grilled vegetables, or as a salad dressing thinned with a little milk.

Can I make it less spicy?

Cut the chili flakes in half when you make the chili oil. You can always add more at the end.

Can I use dried herbs?

Yes. Use a third of the amount, and let the dressing rest 30 minutes so the herbs soften.
