What did I have?
I have been here plenty of times since they opened in mid-2023. They were known as The Dolar Shop, but have rebranded to CHOCHO Hot Pot to offer a premium all-you-can-eat experience. I usually stay away from all-you-can-eat spots as I know it’s difficult to keep both quality and freshness with high volume (or not-so-high volume). Particularly for CHOCHO, I am always impressed with their upkeep of quality by keeping their ingredients iced, stored properly, and market tables looking clean at all times. They always have someone constantly wiping down, re-organizing utensils, bowls, and offerings. The produce and ingredients look excellent in quality and are presented looking clean and desirable.
For the price of $50 per person ($40 after 9 PM) and what they have to offer, no wonder reservations are difficult to book especially at this time of year. I was able to get a reservation midweek during dinnertime, and went all out on their Boneless Short Plate, Flat Iron Beef, and Chuck Eye Roll ordered on the iPad. I also tried a couple of their a la carte items that offered higher quality cuts like their A5 Miyazaki Wagyu, Wagyu Thick Cut, and Shrimp Paste. Can’t forget the all-you-can-drink Granny Plum Juice, this is a must for me when having hot pot. You may think drinking more liquid fills you up more but it helps cleanse my palate, and expands my stomach for more food.
The market tables have a lot to offer. An assortment of vegetables, seafood, pre-fried options, noodles, and even curry. I typically stay away from carbohydrates as much as I can, maybe just one order of noodles and go for more seafood and vegetables to get my money’s worth.
Their dessert options are always great and I’ve noticed they like to switch it up occasionally. This time around was their Panda Ice Jelly made with bingfen (ice jelly), green pandan leaves, matcha pocky sticks, panda shaped marshmallows, and coconut milk. Additionally, other toppings like coconut jelly, barley, strawberries, mangos and more. The unlimited ice cream at the end is also a must, with the charcoal waffle cone. Don’t judge, but I always have at least 3 to 6 every visit.
Final Thoughts?
Well, I ended up coming back a second time that same week since my footage from the first experience was corrupted. Not complaining though; I was able to get a reservation the following Saturday right when they opened.
As mentioned in the beginning, I’ve been here plenty of times already and really enjoy this spot especially as an All-You-Can-Eat with this type of quality, I’m happy to come back once in a while to fulfill my hot pot craving. This place is always packed and great for large groups, but make sure to make reservations ahead of time. If you haven’t been here yet and are a hot pot lover, make sure you try CHOCHO Hot Pot out!
