Rice
Short Grain Rice is recommended for this dish. It’s a must-have pairing. The soft rice complements this dish very well. Cook rice ahead of time.
Meat
If you do not like chicken, you can substitute using beef, pork, or vegetables. There are many different variations of Mapo Tofu that cater to all taste buds.
Tofu
For Mapo Tofu, medium to firm tofu is used because we want the tofu to hold together while being able to absorb the sauce for delicious bites.
Soft Tofu is typically used for desserts.
